Instagram Stories: Why vertical video is the future of brand storytelling?

Social Media Week happens every year and I was lucky enough to go for the first time in 2019. Happening in October/November in London, Social Media Week (SMW) brings together professionals with a passion for news ideas, innovations and emerging trends in social media.

We Are Social, a global socially-led creative agency, hosted a talk all about video and how the world is now going back to being vertical.

You might think, ‘back to vertical’? Yes, when you think about it, culture was made in vertical, paintings that were done years ago, they were all done vertically and did you know the first ever video camera was made to be filmed in vertical too! Not only that everyone, now-a-day uses their phones vertical, so why not make content that way too?

One thing that has changed the whole social media game with vertical videos is Instagram Stories. With people using them more and more to show followers what they’re doing right then in that moment. Even companies are catching on to the vibe. With 56% of people using stories on any platform at least once a week and 1 billion stories being created every day, with 60% of people in the UK saying they are planning on using stories more in the future.

Did you know that 58% of people say they’re more interested in a product after seeing it on a story and 42% if them would then go to the website and 26% of them would go on to tell someone else about that product.

Although, even after all these stats people are still scared to move to vertical video. Why?
